Right now, wireless charging is more about not having to insert a plug into a port in order to recharge a device’s battery. Rather, the device can simply be placed on a base where contact points can meet each other and exchange electricity. A company is asserting that it can offer customers true wireless charging by simply having the device within the vicinity and has created an Indiegogo campaign to fund their efforts.
Tech companies have been promising true wireless charging for years, The Verge recently reported. Unfortunately, this promise has not been delivered so far, which is starting to frustrate those who actually believed it. Yank Tech is a company that is promising to end their suffering with a device called the MotherBox.
“The MotherBox is the first wireless charger that can REALLY wirelessly charge your device,” the company’s Indiegogo campaign page reads. “There’s no contact required. It's truly wireless. You can charge your iOS or Android devices simultaneously and never worry about your charging cables again.”
Naturally, there is a lot of skepticism surrounding this project, with many saying that it’s nothing more than an ambitious initiative that is doomed to fail from the start. If it does work, however, it would be such a huge game-changer that would make the whole tech industry tremble.
On that note, there are some limitations to the MotherBox that may dampen some of the excitement with the prospect of finally having true wireless charging, Futurism reports. For one thing, the charging device itself needs to constantly be plugged in. The gadgets that need charging will need to be fitted with a specialized USB receiver as well. Finally, since charging will range from two to ten Watts, it will also likely be slow.
Even with all of these potentially unwanted factors, a device that can offer real wireless charging rightly elicits enthusiasm. In time, perhaps even these limitations can also be overcome.
