The first generation of “OnePlus’ phone the “OnePlus One” is getting a software update, which will finally enable the device to integrate with third-party apps. The update is called “Cyanogen OS 13.1,” which is based on the latest “Marshmallow Android 6.0” OS. This particular integration makes the phone MOD-ready, and as Engadget puts it, this means that certain aspects of the phone that could not be accessed before are accessible now.
The software update basically allows certain “Microsoft” features to access certain parts of the phone that software limitations made inaccessible before. For just one example, users of the “OnePlus One” will be able to use “Skype” directly now. The “OneNote” can also be used to take note of anything from the emails of the users or the applications that they are using.
In a video presentation of the software update, “Cyanogen” explained why users should be excited to update their OS now.
"Cyanogen OS 13.1: The MOD Ready update is a major step forward in the post-app era, with mods taking center stage,” Cyanogen said. “Mods are your favorite features, right where you expect them. The MOD platform now extends into Phone, Messaging, Camera, Lock Screen, Email and more. This update includes mods for Skype, Hyperlapse, Twitter, Cortana and OneNote."
Tech Times also explains that with the software update, “Cortana” can be used even with the lock screen. Users can even tell “Cortana” to take selfies without ever needing to touch the button. For users who want to have time-lapse videos, this is also possible with the “Microsoft Hyperlapse Mod.”
Basically, “OnePlus One” users will be able to do things that they could do with other smartphones, which is arguably a convenient feature if only to keep things uniform. The software update is only meant for the first generation OnePlus phone, which is only natural since preceding devices already offer more convenient features.
