Oprah Winfrey is thinking of running for president of United States in 2020. The 63 year-old queen of media, who previously denied questions about her political ambitions, said she is now rethinking about her chances now that Donald Trump has successfully captured the most coveted seat in the Oval Office, BBC reported.
Telling financier David Rubenstein on his Bloomberg Television program, she hinted, "I never considered the question even a possibility. I just thought, “Oh… oh?”"
Rubenstein added, "It's clear you don't need government experience to be elected president of the United States.”
Winfrey seconded and said, "That's what I thought. I thought, “Oh, gee, I don't have the experience, I don't know enough.” And now I'm thinking, “Oh.”"
The Independent said Winfrey was hounded with questions as latest as January. And why not? Winfrey’s “The Oprah Effect,” no doubt build from the many years she’s been on television first as a journalist and an influential talk show host, has made her the first and only multi-billionaire black person in the US. An estimate credited Winfrey’s powers to sway over a million votes for Barack Obama to win the 2008 Democratic primary race.
On the other hand, Glamour said Winfrey could have been commenting on the results of the election, and thinks that maybe too many people are quick enough to hung onto her words considering the unstable political climate. And just as she has said when asked time and time again, a presidential run was “not [her] thing.”
