Caitriona Balfe has clarified that actor Colin O’Donoghue will not guest-star in “Outlander” season 4.
The series lead actress sparked a wildfire of rumors with a simple tweet earlier this week. In her social media post, Balfe thanked her co-star Sam Heughan and some members of the production crew as the filming of “Outlander” season 4 comes to a close.
The fact that “Outlander” season 4’s production is advancing is already exciting news. But fans could not overlook the inclusion of O’Donoghue’s Twitter handle in Balfe’s tweet. Many immediately assumed it meant that the Irish actor is officially part of “Outlander” season 4 as a guest star.
Colin O’Donoghue is known for playing the role of Captain Hook in several seasons of another hit series, “Once Upon a Time.” Balfe’s mistaken tweet was, in fact, referred to by some fans as a crossover between “Once Upon a Time” and “Outlander.” But that is not happening.
Caitriona Balfe followed up with another tweet to apologize and explained that she tagged the “wrong Colin.” Meanwhile, O’Donoghue has also chimed in to support Balfe’s follow-up tweet, saying he was just “tagged by accident.” But, regardless, Balfe’s co-star Sam Heughan apparently had a good laugh from Balfe’s honest mistake.
Heughan joked in his own tweet that O’Donoghue’s casting for the “Outlander” TV series can still happen in season 5. In another post, Heughan continued to poke fun at the Twitter incident and told O’Donoghue, “Thank you anyway, Colin. You’ve kept us going... from afar!”
Meanwhile, a lot of details about “Outlander” season 4 are still under wraps. But fans would be happy to know that they will not have to endure a painful cliffhanger sequence in the finale episode. “Outlander” book saga author Diana Gabaldon recently told Collider, “When I read the script for the finale, it had a terrific cliffhanger ... Anyway, the next rewrite came and they said not to do the cliffhanger. It may change again, you don't know.”
“Outlander” season 4’s release date is still unknown. But the show’s network, Starz, previously confirmed that the show will premiere sometime in November.
