“Overwatch” has been exploding in popularity since its release last month, and has been rising in the ranks of most played games like a rocket ship. To further entice new players and increase the excitement for existing ones, developers will supposedly be releasing two more heroes, with one reportedly arriving as a surprise. Also, it seems that South Koreans are really digging the online, multiplayer shooter since it has surpassed the indomitable “League of Legends” in their cafes.
The University Herald reported recently that “Overwatch” will be getting a few updates and additions soon, with new characters, a new competitive mode, and new maps. “Blizzard” has not confirmed the new additions, however, preferring not to disappoint their customers if the plans don’t fall through.
Even so, there are a few details available, including the names of the new characters; “Sombra” and “Liao.” Supposedly, “Sombra” is already in the game in a few ways, and players only need to look for clues to find out who this character is.
Aside from the new characters, rumors about new maps are in circulation, but “Blizzard” has not commented on the matter. Of course, it’s only to be expected that the company would be providing new maps for the game at some point, particularly because “Overwatch” is just starting out.
In related news, “League of Legends” has been the undisputed king of gaming cafes in South Korea for the past four years, according to PC Gamer. However, it seems “Blizzard’s” paid offering has overtaken the multiplayer online battle arena, clocking in at 30 percent of the games played. In comparison, “LOL” only got 28 percent.
Many are speculating that the explosion of popularity of “Overwatch,” allowing it to overtake “LOL,” is not necessarily permanent. After all, the online game by “Riot Games” has proven its mettle over the years and is not expected to go anywhere, anytime soon.
