Netflix's mountain-themed crime drama has fans in a bind with its upcoming installment's fate still in limbo. While the future of "Ozark" season 3 has yet to be set in stone by the digital streaming giant, fans can be assured that the show's staff members are just as excited to get back to creating the show that fans have grown to love.
The show's head writer, Chris Mundy, shares plans about “Ozark” season 3 in an interview with Thrillist. When asked about what thematic direction the upcoming installment will be taking, Mundy mentions a similar family-oriented direction for “Ozark” season 3's characters. The Byrde's will still be trying their best to “own their new lives” but now with the added challenge of dealing with the Kansas City mob.
Mundy emphasizes that any plans for “Ozark” season 3 will potentially explore more of how accepting the new life in the Ozarks will continue to affect Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy's (Laura Linney) relationship. One of the plot points that Mundy drops is the potential direction of having Wendy's brother finally be introduced in “Ozark” season 3. His introduction could once again shake up Marty and Wendy's relationship after they found some sort of balance after the first season's affairs and life-changing danger.
Chris Mundy also shares that with the direction that the show is heading for in terms of story, fans can hopefully expect the show to take at least five seasons to cover the material that the writing team has ready. While an incredibly optimistic statement, Mundy is not alone in thinking that the show has potential to be worked on past “Ozark” season 3.
In an interview with "The Ellen Show," Jason Bateman confirms Chris Mundy's optimism about “Ozark” season 3 pulling through for 2019. Bateman also mentions that he personally has nothing to do until March of 2019, which could hint at production for the show's upcoming installment to start sometime during Q2 of 2019. While still without an official renewal confirmation from Netflix, fans can still be hopeful that “Ozark” season 3 could potentially return sometime in late 2019
