Sony announced the lineup of free downloadable games waiting for PlayStation Plus subscribers at the start of a new year. The company confirmed earlier leaks that the list would include popular installments from the “Fallout” and “Star Wars Jedi” franchises.
“Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” headlines the monthly downloadable games for PS Plus Essential. It is the game where “Star Wars” fans were introduced to the character and story of Cal Kestis as the last Jedi Padawan. While the game introduced a standalone story, its premise was connected to the utilization of Order 66 from the 2005 “Star Wars” film “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.”
This is also going to be a good chance for PS Plus subscribers to be introduced to the “Star Wars Jedi” series if they have not played the “Fallen Order” yet. Respawn Entertainment is slated to release its sequel “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” on March 17.
Bethesda Game Studios’ “Fallout 76” is also included in the next lineup of monthly downloadable games for PS Plus. It is worth noting that the title has been offered to subscribers of higher tiers, Extra and Premium, but this will be the first chance for Essential subscribers to download the game at no additional cost.
Lastly, the side-scroll platform game “Axiom Verge 2” will also be available to PS Plus subscribers next week. It is a sequel to the same title game released by Thomas Happ Games and introduces new characters and gameplay features.
It is worth noting, though, that the lineup was revealed a week ahead of Sony’s announcement. Leaker billbil-kun, who has been providing accurate PS Plus reports, revealed the list last Dec. 23.
Both “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” and “Axiom Verge 2” have dedicated versions for PS4 and PS5. “Fallout 76” has only been released on PS4, but PS5 players will still be able to access it through backward compatibility.
All three games will be available to download on PS Plus starting Tuesday, Jan. 3. While waiting for these games, subscribers still have a chance to acquire copies of the downloadable games offered for December, including “Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition,” “Mass Effect Legendary Edition,” and “Biomutant.”
