PlayStation fans with existing long-term PS Plus plans might still have questions on how they will be affected by the upcoming changes brought by the revamped PS Plus services. One of their concerns has been addressed by Sony, confirming that they will have an option to upgrade to the two higher tiers.
To recap, Sony announced the all-new PS Plus that will launch this spring. The company combines the features of the currently existing PS Plus and PS Now to be offered across three different tiers. All existing PS Plus members will have their subscriptions converted into PS Plus Essential with almost no changes to the included services.
The higher tiers, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, will have more perks at higher price points. An email from Sony was recently shared by One More Gamer, where the company confirmed existing PS Plus subscribers could opt for these more expensive subscription plans.
“You can easily upgrade to a higher benefits plan at any time,” the email reads. “To do so, you’ll need to pay the difference between your current plan and your new plan, adjusted for the remaining time of your subscription.”
The price of PS Plus Essential will be similar to the current PS Plus service. The mid-tier plan PS Plus Extra will cost $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly, but it has all the Essential’s benefits and an additional library of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 downloadable games. The highest plan PS Plus Premium will have all those perks, along with up to 340 classic games released on earlier PS generations, cloud gaming service, and exclusive limited-time game demos for $17.99 monthly / $49.99 quarterly / $119.99 yearly.
Sony previously noted that PS Plus Premium’s cloud streaming access is only available in regions where PS Now has been offered. In a recent update, the company announced it will expand its cloud gaming service to 30 regions, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia at the launch of the all-new PS Plus.
In territories where cloud-based perks are not available, the PS Plus Premium will be called PS Plus Deluxe. The expanded PS Plus service will initially launch in most parts of Asia on May 23, in Japan on June 1, in the Americas on June 13, and in Europe on June 22.
