There have been a lot of rumors and speculations with regards to the possible launch date of the PlayStation 5 over the years. The previous best guess is around 2021, however, there have been recent signs that may point to an earlier release. The biggest of these is Sony’s preparation for the 25th-anniversary celebration that it is planning on holding next year, which could feature the unveiling of the console.
The launch of the PlayStation 5 is one of the most highly anticipated events in the video game industry, with the legion of fans of the console being quite excited to see what it is all about. With Sony opting out of E3 2019 in favor of its own event, many are now expecting that the console will make an appearance there.
However, there is an even bigger sign that the PlayStation 5 will be unveiled during the event and it comes in the form of a new holiday theme for the PlayStation 4. As pointed out in the Tweet below, the letter “S” on the word “PLAYSTATION” looks suspiciously like a “5”. This theme is open to those who signed up for the promotional emails from Sony.

Now, this is far from official confirmation that the PlayStation 5 is indeed going to be unveiled during the anniversary event in 2019. However, there have been rumblings that Sony is committed to keeping its number one spot and preventing Microsoft from going anywhere near it. One of the ways it can do this is by launching its next-generation console ahead of its rival.
This is why there are now speculations that shortly following the unveiling of the PlayStation 5 next year, it is going to be available in the market soon after. If this does end up happening, however, it might not have the same effect as Sony might be hoping for.
