The Pocophone F2 is still one of the most anticipated phones this year despite Xiaomi maintaining its silence about the device. As such, it’s difficult to know exactly where the sequel stands and whether or not it’ll come out in 2019.
There have been several speculated reasons why the Pocophone F2 hasn’t been released yet. One of them is that Xiaomi may be waiting for Qualcomm to slash the price of its new Snapdragon 855 Plus.
With the Pocophone F1 outfitted with Qualcomm’s latest chip last year, Xiaomi may want to do the same with the Pocophone F2. After all, it was one of the major contributing factors why the F1 was received with overwhelming positivity by the mid-range market, TechRadar reported.
Pocophone F2 and Snapdragon 855 Plus
With Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 arriving this year – perhaps on the tail end of 2019 – the manufacturer will probably drop the 855 Plus’ price in early 2020. By then, Xiaomi may be looking to finally speak about the Pocophone F2.
Another reason for the device’s delay was due to Jai Mani leaving the company in July. Until now, it’s still unclear why Poco’s leader parted ways with Xiaomi, but it’s assumed that his departure affected the development of the Pocophone F2.
Pocophone F2 is still being evaluated
Then there’s also the Redmi K20 to consider. Prior to the smartphone’s release, the Remi K20 was thought to be the same product as the Pocophone F2. The only difference was that their name would be changed based on what region they’re being sold to. However, the speculation was off the mark, and the Redmi K20 proved to be a separate brand for Xiaomi.
The device’s specs resembled what the Pocophone F2 should’ve been; that’s why a lot of people were assuming the two were one and the same. But now that they’re different, Xiaomi may be looking to find ways to differentiate both devices, particularly on the features that they’re offering.
Indeed, there were reports in July that Xiaomi is still evaluating where the Pocophone F2 fits in its future lineup, and judging by the company silence, it would appear that the evaluation process is still ongoing. Nevertheless, there’s no chance that the series will be discontinued, as confirmed by Xiaomi India Head of Marketing Anuj Sharma, India Today reported.
