“Power” season 6 is definitely coming so there is no need to worry for its cancellation. In fact, filming has started already, and everything is almost done by now.
In December 2018, it was rumored that Starz would delay “Power” season 6 due to the unfortunate incident where one of the crews died while working on the set in Brooklyn. However, the speculations of the delay were refuted when showrunner Courtney Kemp relayed that the cast is back to work and table reading for the eighth episode of the drama. The activity means that the production is on schedule despite the temporary suspension of filming due to the death of the staff.
“Power” season 6 will continue the story of James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a club owner who wants to escape from the dark world of the drug business. He is doing everything to free himself from being entangled with powerful drug syndicates, but his efforts seem to always end with a price. In fact, in the season 5 finale, Angela was shot while protecting him and this made him wonder if he can still get out of the big mess he is in.
As for the cast of “Power” season 6, everyone already knows that 50 Cent is not coming back as a cast member for his characters Kanan is already dead. The rest of the key players including Angela (Lela Loren), Dre (Rotimi Akinosho), Tommy (Joseph Sikora), La La (LaKeisha Grant) and Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) are returning to reprise their roles.
“Power” season 6 will feature 10 episodes, and the plot is predicted to be more dramatic as showrunner Courtney stated that the shooting of Angela in season 5 would lead to the end of Ghost and Tommy’s friendship. Moreover, Tariq will play a bigger role in the upcoming installment as his involvement in his father’s (Ghost) affair may become deeper.
Starz already announced that “Power” season 6 is set to premiere in 2019 but did not give a specific date. Digital Spy suggested that it may arrive in July because post-production works may be done by this time. Plus, this is the usual season that the show is released, so it makes sense.
