Prince William, Duches of Cambridge and wife Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry had a conversation about mental health, which was captured for a promotional video. The video is reportedly for the royal’s “Heads Together campaign,” of which its mission is to encourage everyone to open up about personal issues they’re facing that would threaten mental health.
The seven-minute video showed the three members of the British Royal Family opening up to the princes’ circumstances following the death of their mother, the late Princess Diana. All three came across as honest and unrehearsed, which is unusual coming from British royalty, Vanity Fair observed. Prince Harry talked about avoiding the topic of her mother’s death in the past, and said, “I always thought to myself what was the point of bringing up the past, what was the point of bringing up something that is only going to make you sad. It ain’t going to bring her back . . . But when you start thinking about that, it can be really damaging.”
Kate acknowledges Harry’s strength, and replied, “I do think it’s incredible how strong and how you’ve been able to cope really, and I put that down to your really early years and your childhood experience. But also the relationship [William and Harry have] . . . you’re amazingly close.”
Prince William chimed in and said, “We have been brought closer as a result of the circumstances as well. You are uniquely bonded because of what we’ve been through. Even Harry and I though, over the years, have not talked enough about our mother.”
He also added that it is important to prioritized on your mental health. He stated, referring to the campaign, "Someone has to take the lead and be brave enough to force that conversation."
