In an industry positively swimming in a sea of apps that are just clones of each other, some examples like “Prisma” stand out from the rest. With its filter options that allow users to make their photos look like works of art by the masters, it is taking the app industry by storm. Now, the question is whether it will be bought by another industry giant like Google, Facebook, or Twitter, or if the apps developers will raise funds themselves via investors.
“Prisma” is absolutely blowing up the iOS app charts, according to Tech Crunch. Now that it’s APK beta for Android is available, “Prisma” is expected to gain a lot more attention. In order to grow their influence even more, “Prisma” will need to either get money via venture funding or to be acquired by one of the companies already lining up to get it.
When Josh Constine asked of Tech Crunch asked Prisma co-founder and CEO Alexey about their plans regarding which way the company was going, the latter was elusive in his answer.
“For now I can’t disclose all this information,” Moiseenkov said. “By the end of the week I think we can discuss more.”
However, it seems that Moiseenkov was actually at Facebook’s headquarters recently where he reportedly showcased how compatible “Prisma” was with “Facebook Live.” What’s interesting here is that “Prisma” doesn’t currently offer video filters to most users, though there are plans to add the feature in the near future. As such, it wouldn’t be surprising if Facebook did end up acquiring the app.
Then again, there are already some examples of what the “Prisma” can do when applied to video with sound, and Mashable reported on one example of this. The video was posted on Instagram by user “junk_e_cat” and it featured him producing music while the surroundings look like they were painted or animated.
