Boston, June 28, 2017 -- Road Scholar, the world’s leading educational travel organization for adults, has designed a new type of learning adventure that gives adults the opportunity to give people a taste of living abroad in world-class cities in Europe and South America. This year, they have introduced two new locations for participants interested in a full-scale cultural and language immersion experience in Southern Italy and Ecuador.

To date, hundreds of baby boomers and beyond have attended a growing number of the not-for-profit organization’s “Living and Learning” programs. These six-week experiences include independent apartment living, daily optional language instruction, educational, expert-led excursions and a dedicated resource to assist with the unique challenges of living in a foreign country.
Living and Learning in Provence: Independent Stay and Study was the destination of choice for Road Scholar participant Cheri Filion. Ms. Filion, 63, is relatively new to Road Scholar and has recently retired from her career as a federal administrative law judge in Seattle. She had always wanted to learn French and felt the six-week program was a great way to immerse herself in the language, culture and lifestyle of Southern France.
“I’ve wanted to learn to speak French my entire life,” Cheri said. “I discovered the Road Scholar Living and Learning program last year and thought, ‘Why not?’ The program gave me an insider’s view into the famous French joie de vivre that I’ve always heard so much about— insights that simply cannot be gleaned from a book or a television show. I shopped in local markets, passed the time learning French, sipping coffee at my neighborhood café, and enjoyed the incredible French cuisine. I think it’s an excellent program for anyone who really wants to dig below the surface and really understand a culture and its people.”
