Fans should prepare for some changes in the characters once “Ray Donovan” season 7 premiere at a slightly later date. For one, the titular protagonist, played by Liev Schreiber, will be going to therapy sessions more frequently this season.
Ray is a reliable crime cleaner and fixer, so it was not surprising for the character to put up a brave face and to be initially in denial of his issues. However, “Ray Donovan” season 7 picks up with Ray breaking barriers as hinted at the season 6 finale when he called his therapist portrayed by Alan Alda.
‘Ray Donovan’ season 7 spoilers: Alan Alda gets more screen time
The finale of season 6, for many fans and critics, was one of the best episodes the show had since 2013. The plot felt like some sort of closure to many issues the Donovans were facing. But it also offered something to look forward to in “Ray Donovan” season 7 such as Ray’s openness to tackle his internal struggles by calling his doctor.
However, agreeing to meet with Alda’s character is not just about going to therapy sessions for Ray. Alda’s role will have a much deeper significance to the titular character in “Ray Donovan” season 7. Showrunner David Hollander previously explained to TVLine that Ray’s emotional connection to his shrink is rooted from the need of a proper father figure.
Speaking of a father figure, Mickey (Jon Voight) is seen in the “Ray Donovan” season 7 teaser trailer back in prison. The upcoming episodes will likely give more context to it, but it might be a good thing for Ray as he appears to be embracing the need for major life changes. Meanwhile, Daryl (Pooch Hall) also has some new things coming his way. The trailer shows him in bed with a new love interest.
‘Ray Donovan’ season 7 release date
The first five seasons of the show was released in summer. However, season 6’s premiere was delayed to October 2018, and the fall release date window has been maintained for “Ray Donovan” season 7. The upcoming installment will arrive even later than last year. The series returns on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. ET on Showtime.
