Gamers already know that “Red Dead Redemption 2” is going to be a huge open-world game, but the sheer size of the map may still surprise a lot of people.
During a recent question and answer session with Dutch site Inside Gamer, developers Rockstar Studios confirmed what many had speculated months ago; the entirety of the first game’s map is going to be part of the “Red Dead Redemption 2” world.
Inside Gamer has already deleted the post because they did not want to give away too many spoilers, but some Reddit users managed to translate a portion of the interview before it was taken down.
“After asking Rockstar they told me the entire (!) map of Red Dead Redemption is also in this game, but that of course there are many more areas added. In the six hours I played I only got to see a small part of Blackwater, and even that was already gigantic. Six hours was not enough to see any of the other familiar places,” a translated post on Reddit reads.
Meanwhile, reports have indicated that the file size for “Red Dead Redemption 2” is as enormous as the game’s map. About 105 GB of storage space is required for the base game, and the total size will get bigger with updates and patches.
The game’s file size shouldn’t come as a surprise because “Red Dead Redemption 2” is supposed to take role-playing to a whole different level with its gameplay mechanics. Aside from the usual RPG elements like character customization, the game will also require players to keep the protagonist well-fed and rested because the recovery speed of the character’s health, stamina, and deadeye meters will depend on the state of each corresponding Core. This should appeal to RPG fans.
“Red Dead Redemption 2” is coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Oct. 26.
