Redberry Restaurants won Burger King’s 2021 Franchisee of the Year in the award’s category for those with 50 or more locations, making it the first Canadian firm to receive the honors.
Amid the many pandemic-related challenges, from staffing to supply issues, Redberry opened 15 Burger King locations and a Pizza Hut store, acquired 14 Taco Bell restaurants, and made extensive renovations.
Redberry also inked development deals to build 168 Burger King, 50 Taco Bell, and five Pizza Hut, and to re-model 62 existing Burger Kings over the next five years.
The deals would push Redberry’s number of locations in Canada to 385 across five provinces.
The company currently has over 110 Burger King restaurants in Ontario and Quebec.
Redberry Restaurants CEO Ken Otto called winning the Burger King Franchisee of the Year Award the perfect finish to an outstanding year.
Last year, Redberry onboarded nearly 4,000 employees and promoted 341.
Their diverse range of employees is aged 15 to 75 years old, with employment periods lasting up to 42 years.
Redberry’s winning formula includes their speed of service, which is one of the fastest in North America.
Other operational metrics that secured the award for Redberry include significant growth in Same-Store Sales and Same-Store Traffic. Redberry was also called out for their new buildings, and flawless execution of the Burger King brand standard.
