Reddit has recently announced that its merchandise store, RedditMarket, has started accepting bitcoin as a payment method. The processing of the payments will be done by Coinbase, which sells various Reddit items. However, it is still not clear if Reddit plans to incorporate bitcoin payments on its main platform in the future.
The announcement received a positive feedback on Twitter, even though some users expressed their desire for the company to accept other altcoins such as dogecoin.
The decision comes a few months after Reddit's cryptocurrency engineer, Ryan X Charles, was released from his post after just four months at the company. He had made plans to make possible peer-to-peer payments on Reddit, enabling users to register their bitcoin address and receive payments from others; however these plans were put on hold following the resignation of CEO Yishan Wong.
