Former Bakkt CEO who recently sworn-in as Georgia's new Senator, Kelly Loeffler is now assigned to assist overseeing the major financial regulator, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Yes, Kelly Loeffler has joined the Senate Agricultural Committee which is a CFTC’s arm. Loeffler’s new role to play in the US senate and serve the committee is leading to some apprehensions about potential conflict of interest as Mr. Jeffrey Sprecher, who is her husband, who is also the founder, chairman, and the CEO of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which is regulated by the CFTC. And as per a source reported by Cointelegraph, Sprecher owns a 1.1% stake in ICE that is worth nearly $600 million.
Under her leadership, Bakkt was approved from the CFTC to commence trading physically-deliverable Bitcoin contracts.
In addition to that, Bakkt also offers custody/warehouse facility for storing these physically-delivered Bitcoin tokens.
However, Loeffler told the Wall Street Journal “I have worked hard to comply with both the letter and the spirit of the Senate’s ethics rules and will continue to do so every day.” She further added: “I will recuse myself if needed on a case by case basis.”
During her tenure at Bakkt, she has come up with the optimistic perception on the digital currency quite often and accordingly has taken relevant decisions in the recent past.
Now being a Senator and overseeing CFTC committee, can influence and can the crypto-community get to see more support from her latest move, especially through Bakkt as she could proclaim and persuade her insights on crypto-industries’ technicalities and the prospects? Well, only the time has power to clear such grey-shaded areas as President Trump has so far got a different opinion on cryptos.
