With its troubled development period, “Kingdom Hearts 3” was delayed so many times that many had given up hope that it would ever be released. Those who held on might finally get their reward, however, with the reveal of the game’s release date. If all goes well, the third main installment of the adventures of Sora, Donald, and Goofy will become available by Jan. 25, 2019.
The release date was confirmed by Square Enix, which posted it on its official Twitter account. There was also a message from series creator Tetsuya Nomura, apologizing for the delay.
“We’ve announced the release day for KINGDOM HEARTS III ahead of E3 at the KINGDOM HEARTS Orchestra -World Tour-. I’m sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned. Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3. Thank you – Nomura,” the Tweet reads.
It's worth noting that a similar announcement was made during a Disney event in 2017, reports Polygon, which indicated that a 2018 release window was expected. Of course, this is nothing new to fans of the series who have been grappling with disappointments for more than a decade while waiting for the game.
The release of "KH3" is important also because it represents a conclusion to the saga involving the three main characters Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Since the launch of "KH2," many side stories have been released, along with re-releases of those titles and the main games.
Unfortunately, the final installment of the main story kept getting delayed. At this point, it’s safe to say that many fans of the franchise have moved on if only because it’s been so long.
On the other hand, recent tests of the game by publications like GameSpot produced encouraging feedback. Apparently, the title is well-polished and the style still holds up even by today’s standards. As such, alienated fans might finally have reason to return.
