Microsoft has been trying to create the perfect hardware over the last few years and it seems it has finally done this with the new Surface Laptop. Reviewers are absolutely loving the new product, which is basically the culmination of all of Microsoft’s past experiments. On the other hand, critics are now too impressed with the limited edition Windows 10 S that comes with the laptop.
The new Surface Laptop is Microsoft’s magnum opus, largely because it’s exactly the kind of product that suits the needs of its target demographic, The Verge reports. The unit is reminiscent of the old MacBook Air in its thinness while packing powerful hardware and a multitude of useful features.
Sporting a magnificent 13.5-inch touchscreen that’s packed with pixels that go for a neat 2256×1504 resolution, the device certainly offers beautiful visuals. It comes with Core i5 to i7 processor choices, goes for a maximum of 16GB of RAM, and with a minimum 256GB of storage.
All of these features combine to produce one of the most outstanding hardware products in the market. With a base price of $999, it’s not exactly cheap, but it’s also not unduly expensive.
In terms of the operating system that the Surface Laptop comes with, ExtremeTech and other publishers were not exactly thrilled with the new Windows 10 S. Not only was the setup process cumbersome and time-consuming despite the presence of Cortana, several essential apps are apparently not allowed.
One of the biggest gaffes related to the OS is the fact that users can’t even download and install Google Chrome, which is a potential flashpoint between the company and customers. Apparently, only apps from the Windows Store are allowed on Windows 10 S. Unfortunately, owing to the severely limited number of quality choices, the decision to set such boundaries is only going to cause friction.
