Fans may not have seen it coming, but Beth has finally stepped up to defend Jerry from Rick by the end of season 3. However, the latest season also left viewers with a very cryptic question is Beth a clone? With “Rick and Morty” season 4 confirmed to premiere this year, fans start to wonder whether Rick actually made a clone Beth.
“Rick and Morty” season 4 will pick up from the previous installment where Beth was one of the central characters. It allowed fans to learn more about her childhood and her relationship with Rick. Beth has also figured she is just like Rick and wondered if she should just embrace the side of her that is despicably smart. Rick then offered to make a clone of her so she can travel the cosmos without her family ever knowing.
Instead of showing what Beth’s decision was, the season 3 penultimate episode cut to another scene. This topic was once again brought up in the finale where Morty, Summer, and Jerry made light of the possibility that the Beth they see is just a clone. Meanwhile, Rick maintains his resting apathetic face could hint there is more to know about this, possibly, in “Rick and Morty” season 4.
The show has had a habit of directly picking up from the events of the previous season. However, it is still hard to predict if the same pattern will be observed once “Rick and Morty” season 4 premieres in November.
As Inverse pointed out, there have been several storylines introduced in seasons 1 to 3 that are yet to be finalized like the fate of Evil Morty. So there is also a possibility that Beth’s possible clone arc might not be tackled right away in “Rick and Morty” season 4.
Season 3 also highlighted that one of the show’s foundations is Beth’s twisted adoration of her father. So it is interesting how the dynamic of the Smith family and Rick is going to change in “Rick and Morty” season 4 after the season 3 ending implied that Beth has suddenly, completely moved on from that.
