More details about “Rick and Morty” season 4 are being revealed since Adult Swim announced its release date window this month. Meanwhile, one of the possible opening plots of the new season could be focused on its long-running theme: family.
Through the first three seasons, fans saw Beth extremely worried about her dad, Rick, leaving her again. That leads to her husband, Jerry, being sidelined most of the time. But “Rick and Morty” season 4 is picking up from a point where Beth has already surpassed that fear. It could greatly change the balance of the main relationships in the show, including that of Rick and Morty.
Fans may recall that season 3 ended back at the Smiths’ house with Beth, Jerry, Summer, and Morty happily sharing a Panda Express take-out dinner. Rick came back from the White House and talked down to Jerry as he usually does. But that time, Beth finally stood up for her husband, and it could have been hinting at a huge change in the Smiths’ dynamic in “Rick and Morty” season 4.
There was also a subtle reference to what could be the running theme of “Rick and Morty” season 4. “We’re a real family now. In many ways, things will be like season 1, but more streamlined,” Beth told Rick. “Now, Jerry and I are happily married parents, and the idea that I was motivated by a fear of you leaving can be eschewed.”
It is not strange for the show to directly pick up from where the last season ended. If there is one possible thing happening at the beginning of “Rick and Morty” season 4, it could be that Rick becomes the one left out from family talks and activities.
Since “Rick and Morty” season 4 is going to premiere in November, having a Thanksgiving-themed episode 1 could be the best way to tackle the major changes imminent in the Smith household. Fans still have to wait for the announcement of the specific release date of the animated series. For now, they can binge watch seasons 1 through 3 on Netflix.
