‘Riverdale’ season 1’s episode 5, titled “Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness,” will follow Betty as she continues her personal investigation over Jason’s untimely death while uncovering her own family’s dark secrets in the process. The Blossom family also prepares for Jason’s funeral.
The synopsis for “Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness” posted on TV Guide reads, “The Blossom family prepares for Jason's (Trevor Stines) funeral, but do so with a secret agenda in mind; Archie (KJ Apa) sacks football after an opportunity to work with a new music mentor arises; Betty (Lili Reinhart) intensifies her investigation into Jason's death and uncovers unsettling revelations about her family.
Meanwhile, Veronica (Camila Mendes) forms an unlikely friendship with Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch); and Hermoine (Marisol Nichols) seeks help from Fred (Luke Perry) after receiving a cryptic message from the Southside Serpents.”
Betty is set on continuing her investigation over her fallen classmate Jason’s death and will uncover more about her own family that she desires. Also, it seems that the Blossom family will have more than just Jason’s imminent funeral in mind as they also have a secret agenda of their own. Cheryl seems to have a tough time dealing with her brother’s death than she lets on and will form an unlikely friendship with Veronica, who also began uncovering some dark family secrets of her own.
The promotional photographs posted on TV Fanatic hint that the upcoming episode will feature Jason’s funeral. His classmates will turn up for the ceremony including Betty, Veronica, and Jughead (Cole Sprouse).
Meanwhile, Archie will redirect his focus on music when a new mentor comes in. His former teacher and lover, a woman who took on the identity of Miss Geraldine Grundy, was recently revealed in episode 4 to have taken on that alias after escaping from an abusive relationship and moving to Riverdale. Archie may have to put his football efforts to a halt in order to pursue his passion for music.
‘Riverdale’ season 1’s episode 5, titled “Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness,” is scheduled to air on The CW on February 23, 2017. It was directed by Jesse Warn and written by Ross Maxwell.
