“The Warriors” is a 70s cult classic movie about a gang of teens of the same name fighting against other similar groups after getting framed for murdering the leader of a rival gang. “Rockstar’s” take on the video game adaptation of the film received similar cult status when it came out for the “PlayStation 2,” though it never really reached the same heights as their more popular franchise, “Grand Theft Auto.” Now, “PS4” owners can download the title to experience the brawling action that hails from a glorious past.
As Gamesradar noted, “The Warriors” video game attained cult classic status back in 2005, with underground fans expressing rabid fascination and enthusiasm about the game, even as mainstream gamers were not even aware of its existence. The game stays true to the elements that made the movie so unique, from the atmosphere to the “bop” and run strategy that players need to keep in mind if they want to keep their gang intact.
The game is over a decade old, so it’s only to be expected that many of its elements are going to be dated. More than that, the title is based on a movie that was released in 1979, so there will be some cheese. However, many of “Rockstar’s” ideas still live up to the company’s creative reputation, from the stealing and selling of car components to giving the movie the explosive ending it deserved.
Since it is coming to the “PS4,” there are several additions that make “The Warriors” a more appropriate title for this generation. Gamestop reports new features like trophies, shareplay, 1080p rendering, and Activity Feeds. “Rockstar” also warns that those who played the “PS2” original will notice some changes in the gameplay, and this is because the title was converted to be compatible with the “PS4.”
