Rosfinmonitoring: Cryptocurrency Ban Is Applicable, Could Require Revision Overtime

According to latest reports, Rosfinmonitoring, the Federal Financial Monitoring Service of the Russian Federation, has said that while it considers cryptocurrency ban in Russia to be quite applicable measure, it does not rule out that over time this approach may be revised.

The remarks have been made by the State Secretary and Deputy Director of the Federal Financial Monitoring Service, Pavel Livadnyy, at a conference of ARB, RIA reported.

"At present, prepared in accordance with the presidential order bill prohibiting trafficking cryptocurrency in Russia Currently, this is the measure that we believe it is possible and applicable.", he said. "At the same time we cannot ignore the fact that this tool is developed throughout the world and, perhaps, after a while we will have to look at this problem and several different angle”.

The comments follow recent comments from Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev who said that various additions and corrections are being made to what was regarded as the final version of the draft law that seeks to ban circulation of digital currencies, which is expected to delay the passing of the bill to the country’s legislative assembly Duma.

It is expected that bill will be introduced to the Russian parliament before the closing of the spring session.

Also, recently Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Olga Skorobogatov suggested the possible development of such phenomena as the national digital currency as well as the interest of the banking sector in the distributed ledger technologies.
