AMD is yet to officially take the curtains off the anticipated refresh chips Ryzen 3 2300X and Ryzen 5 2500X. But another set of details supposedly pertaining to these processors has been leaked online recently.
The Ryzen 3 2300X and the Ryzen 5 2500X are anticipated as the processors to complete AMD’s second-generation Ryzen chips this year. And the leaked details indicate that these products are going to cater to consumers looking for components with ample performance without hurting their pockets.
Both the Ryzen 3 2300X and the Ryzen 5 2500X have four cores, according to the leaked information. But AMD pairs that with eight threads on the Ryzen 5 2500X and four threads on the Ryzen 3 2300X.
These chips also do not differ much in terms of their clocked speeds. The Ryzen 3 2300X is currently clocked at 3.5 GHz while the other is a tad faster at 3.6 GHz. Both CPUs have the same thermal design point (TDP) of 65W. TDP refers to the highest level of heat that its cooling system — reportedly AMD’s Wraith Stealth — can handle during its operation.
Similar to other second-generation Ryzen chips, these unreleased processors are expected to have a pair of L2 and L3 cache. The Ryzen 3 2300X has 10MB cache capacity while the Ryzen 5 2500X has 18MB.
According to the leaked specs of Ryzen 3 2300X and Ryzen 5 2500X, their turbo speeds are both clocked at 4.0 GHz. But in a test conducted by XFastest (the website that also first reported these core specs), they were able to overclock the Ryzen 3 2300X by up to 5.663 GHz. However, note that XFastest employed an LN2 cooling system in the experiment and not the stock AMD setup.
AMD's Ryzen chips are known for having quite cheaper price tags compared to their Intel Core counterparts. While there is still no official update for the pricing of the Ryzen 3 2300X and the Ryzen 5 2500X, it is expected to not stir away from its predecessors. So the 2300X is likely priced $130 to $140 while the 2500X may cost $150 to $160.
