More information leaks are surfacing online hinting at the CPU specifications tech geeks can expect from the second-generation AMD Ryzen chips. Recent reports suggest that the Ryzen 7 2700E and Ryzen 5 2600E are going to sport some really less demanding thermal design power (TDP) despite having eight and six cores, respectively.
Wccftech recently reported that the upcoming AMD CPUs Ryzen 7 2700E and Ryzen 5 2600E will both have a 45W TDP. This shows AMD’s continuing efforts to expand its lineup of low-power processors with the standard core build.
Both the Ryzen 7 2700E and Ryzen 5 2600E also serve as low-power options to flagship products under the same generation of AMD processors, namely the Ryzen 7 2700X and the Ryzen 5 2600X, respectively. This means that all these CPUs are built with eight cores and 16 threads. But the Ryzen 7 2700E and Ryzen 5 2600E’s lesser TDP naturally calls for lower clock speeds.
The unreleased Ryzen 7 2700E is clocked at 2.8 GHz while its Ryzen 7 2700X counterpart has a base clock speed of 3.7-GHz. The other anticipated AMD chip, Ryzen 5 2600E, is clocked at a base speed of 3.1 GHz while the Ryzen 5 2600X’s is at 3.6 GHz.
All these CPUs are built based on AMD’s Pinnacle Ridge architecture. The unreleased CPUs, Ryzen 7 2700E and Ryzen 5 2600E, are also expected to sport an L2+L3 cache with 20MB and 19MB capacities, respectively, which are the same specs as their X series versions.
Meanwhile, it is important to understand that TDP is one of the essential features of a processor. The common understanding is that the TDP represents that amount of power a CPU (in this case, the Ryzen 7 2700E and Ryzen 5 2600E) will use while running applications or in a sustained workload.
However, there have been several clarifications stating that TDP has more to do with what the processor will require from the computer’s cooling system. So it serves as a guide to computer manufacturers and to custom PC builders in finding the right components for their desired CPUs. So if some are planning to build a PC with the Ryzen 7 2700E or the Ryzen 5 2600E, they will not have a hard time looking for an ample cooling system since its TDP is only marked at 45W.
