- Integration of Airbiquity technology adds powerful, secure OTA updates to innovative ST Telemaco-based connected-car architectures
- On show in ST booth 7A61 at Mobile World Congress, Feb 27-Mar 2, Barcelona, Spain
Seattle, WA and Geneva, Switzerland - February 20, 2017 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, and Airbiquity®, a global leader in connected vehicle services, will demonstrate the integration of Airbiquity's software update management service into ST's telematics and connectivity processors (Telemaco) at Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world's largest gathering for the mobile industry.
The MWC demonstration features Airbiquity's Over-The-Air (OTA) Software & Data Management offering integrated into the ST Telemaco3 Evaluation Board (EVB). Presenting how the technology protects consumers, their automotive investment, and manufacturers, the demo highlights the interoperability between the Airbiquity cloud-based service and the on-board ST Telemaco3 EVB platform in a variety of software-update campaign scenarios and typical Original Equipment Manufacturers' (OEM) OTA use cases.
"The integration of our Software & Data Management offering into the widely used ST Telemaco family of telematics processors demonstrates the benefits of a cost-effective, secure, and out-of-the-box solution for delivering end-to-end OTA software updates to multiple vehicle telematics and electronic control units through a Smart Gateway platform empowered and secured by an ST Telemaco3 processor," said John Tuttle, Vice President of Engineering, Airbiquity. "We see tremendous potential for this technology combination to help OEMs realize the significant benefits of deploying OTA software management solutions across their vehicle portfolios."
"As a centerpiece of ST's Smart Driving technology, the Telemaco family of telematics and connectivity processors has been architected to support and secure feature-rich connected-car applications, with dramatically improved processing performance and a hardened Hardware Security Module," said Antonio Radaelli, Director Infotainment, Automotive Digital Division, STMicroelectronics. "These fundamental elements, together with Airbiquity's end-to-end software update management capability, create a perfect market reference implementation for Telematics and Smart Gateway solutions to prevent cyber-attacks and ensure secure Connected Car feature and performance upgrades throughout the vehicle life cycle."
The Telemaco family of devices provides high bandwidth connectivity (1Gb/sec ETH) and processing capability to handle wireless data management typically required for automotive telematics applications. Moreover, it can handle the control of the in-vehicle CAN bus through an independent and isolated Cortex-M subsystem running a dedicated real-time OS. With its flexible memory and CPU cores configurations, the Telemaco processors allow implementing scalable systems throughout the wide variety of car connectivity applications requiring rich Linux OS and other Posix OS's.
Airbiquity's Software & Data Management offering is designed to efficiently orchestrate and automate highly targeted, scalable, and secure multi-ECU software updates and data collection for connected vehicles. The solution features a sophisticated back-end management capability enabling highly refined campaign targeting, configuration, and approvals, and is fully scalable to easily accommodate the geographic, volume, and IT hosting requirements of the automotive industry.
