Samsung Electronics is reportedly cooperating with Google from the chip design stage to develop a mobile application processor to secure the manufacturing of the chips at its foundry.
The cooperation is strategically beneficial for both companies.
Samsung will increase its market share by getting access to more global clients. It would also be able to boost the number of its foundry customers by producing an application processor for Google while proving its design capabilities.
On the other hand, the deal will allow Google to diversify its parts supply lines and reduce reliance on Qualcomm.
Collaboration from the design stage will also increase Google's manufacturing productivity.
Among the cooperation in the field of system semiconductors that Samsung Electronics has made with is the adoption of Qualcomm AP for its latest smartphone Galaxy S20.
The move was designed to win orders from Qualcomm for the latest modem chip foundry production.
The company has expanded customers for its AP, including Chinese firms such as Vivo.
China's Huawei has recently expressed its intention to use semiconductors from Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Electronics has also continuously expanded the customer base for its image sensor products, supplying 80 million pixel image sensors to Motorola and Xiaomi.
LG Electronics has also adopted Samsung's image sensors for its smartphones.launched in 2019.
