Samsung unveiled the anticipated Galaxy S22 series last week, and it did not take long before the first details about its next premium device appeared in the wild. An early leak has claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will receive one of the crucial upgrades applied to the Galaxy S22 Ultra -- a built-in S Pen.
After months of leaks, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is its first phone outside the Galaxy Note line to ship with a built-in S Pen. And The Elec recently reported that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 is getting the same treatment. The publication noted that Samsung has “recently finalized” to bring the feature to its next-generation foldable phone.
The same report noted that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 sold fewer units compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in 2021. Samsung is reportedly hoping to turn that around by adding the built-in S Pen, which the company considers a potential major selling point for the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
While there are no major design changes expected for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the addition of the built-in S Pen might lead to a slight difference in its screen size compared to its predecessor. The upcoming foldable phone is expected to sport a 7.56-inch main screen and 6.19-inch external display, which were 7.55-inch and 6.2-inch, respectively, on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. But the rumored adjustments appear too small to be noticeable.
After Samsung announced the built-in S Pen for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it should not be surprising to see it happen for the Galaxy Z Fold 4, too. It is also worth noting that the tech giant has already confirmed it does not plan on releasing a new Galaxy Note phone in the near future.
While Samsung did not specifically say the Galaxy Note has been canceled, it is taking on a new strategy that puts the smartphone line on the back burner. “In the near term, our operation will focus on a two-track strategy: flagship S series in the first half of the year and innovative foldable lineup in the second half,” Samsung Electronics president TM Roh told Bloomberg following the Galaxy S22 series announcement. “We will keep this strategy until there’s another major breakthrough and we are working hard to make it happen.”
