The Saudi-led coalition said it destroyed a drone over the Riyadh region Tuesday, following a missile interception and danger warning that had put the capital on alert.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki announced the drone interception in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The statement did not identify who launched the drone.
Earlier Tuesday, the coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh. Al-Malki blamed the Houthis for the launch, according to the coalition’s earlier account of the interception.
Saudi Civil Defense warned of potential danger in Riyadh and later lifted the alert. Anadolu Agency reported that explosions were heard after the warning.
The United Nations says the Houthis took Sanaa in 2014. The coalition joined Yemen’s war in March 2015 after the country’s internationally recognized government requested its intervention.
