When “Scandal” season 5 ended, viewers were left with a lot of questions that they are eager to learn the answers to. A particularly juicy detail that was released by Kerry Washington, who plays the show’s lead Olivia, was her actual pregnancy. As a result, many are expecting that season 6 will have a pregnancy storyline. According to Ecumenical News though, this is not going to be the case.
In the finale, Olivia decided to help Jake by making him the running-mate of presidential candidate Mellie Grant. This prompted rumors that the two will be getting even more intimate for next season. Combined with Washington’s real-life pregnancy, fans can be forgiven for having this line of thought.
This doesn’t mean that season 6 will lack more surprises though as the premiere will likely be set during the middle of a tumultuous election time. Fans already know some of the elements that will be surrounding the race for the presidency, with Mellie and Jake on one side, and Vargas and Cyrus on the other.
As revealed in the finale though, Olivia was not saving Jake from Rowan after all. Rowan wanted Jake on Mellie’s ticket the whole time. As a recent TV Guide interview with Bellamy Young, who plays Mellie, suggests that this could lead to a rather rocky campaign period for her character.
Clearly, Rowan is still running the show from the background, treating everyone from his daughter to the potential POTUS as pawns. Will Mellie give Jake the boot once she finds out? Will Jake end up betraying Mellie and Olivia under orders from Rowan? Or will Mellie make a deal with Rowan in a desperate attempt to win the presidency?
“Scandal” Season 6 will premiere with an adjusted schedule to accommodate Washington’s pregnancy according to ABC. The next season will also feature 16 episodes instead of 22.
