“Shameless” Season 9 started off with a brilliant first episode but the second one didn’t land as hard. Still, the storyline has been outlined quite nicely and things are going to be more chaotic and degenerate for the Gallagher household.
Of course, the prime example for this detestable behavior is none other than the alcoholic deadbeat father, Frank (William H. Macy). In episode 2, audiences saw that the Gallaghers' head is still rolling with his schemes of getting rich quick by entering the world of politics. He did this by being the campaign manager for Mo White (Dan Lauria) with a running slogan of Make America White Again. “Shameless” Season 9 will continue to show this reprehensible behavior all throughout this installment as it’s the charm that is pulling audiences in.
Indeed, Showtime president David Nevins said that the show is performing well given how long it’s been running. “As challenging as it can be for any show simply to maintain viewers in the current TV landscape, ‘Shameless’ is adding them in droves. But it’s no mystery why. The series’s reputation for rich and resonant characters and for deep–and deeply twisted–comedy has drawn not only faithful longtime viewers but a steadily growing audience,” Otaku Art quoted the exec as saying. And it’s this warped approach to life that’s giving “Shameless” Season 9 the steam it needs going forward.
However, that steam is about to diminish as Emmy Rossum – the actress playing Fiona – is going to leave the show in “Shameless” Season 9. The actress announced her departure in a heartfelt Facebook post where she detailed how important the show and its cast are to her.
It’s still unclear what the real reason for Rossum’s decision but rumors are saying that the actress and the network didn’t see eye to eye when it came to her contract. While “Shameless” Season 9 is still developing Fiona’s character, the trajectory of her story seems to be going where she’ll eventually be ousted. It goes without saying that longtime fans of the show were saddened by the news, with some predicting that it will heavily affect the series’s performance when Rossum finally leaves.
