‘Sherlock’ Season 5 Air Date, Spoiler: Mark Gatiss Quashes Rumors About Detective Drama’s Return

Sherlock

“Sherlock” season 5’s future is uncertain but fans are hoping it will be back on air. After the conclusion of season 4, there were many speculations about whether the detective drama can return or not. But sadly, fans are not getting any straight answers, so they tend to believe what they read in publications.

Likewise, any news that says “Sherlock” season 5 is now underway makes the fans very excited but it seems that the series’ producers have no concrete plans yet on when they will go into production again.

In any case, one of the most talked about reasons why “Sherlock” season 5 is delayed is due to the lead stars strained relationship. They said that it will be hard for Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) and Martin Freeman (John H. Watson) to be together on set again and it’s not just because of their busy schedules. It was alleged that the two are not on good terms.

The Daily Mail reported that their "icy" relationship made them lose interest in coming back to film the drama at all. Since the two leads reportedly had no desire to do another season, it only means that “Sherlock” season 5 may be shelved for a while.

Then again, the series’ co-creator, Steven Moffat, said that there is still a chance for “Sherlock” to return.

"Nobody has ever closed the door on Sherlock — we just say the same thing all the time and it gets quoted different ways,” he told Radio Times. “We haven't got an immediate plan, but I would remain surprised, given the collective enthusiasm we have for it, if we didn't do it again."

Now, even if Moffat asserted that they may still do “Sherlock” season 5, it will not happen very soon. In fact, co-creator and actor Mark Gatiss recently shot down the rumors that the plan for its return is now certain.

An insider, Chris Georgiou, the owner of Speedy's Cafe where the “Sherlock” staff had their drinks and snacks while filming in the last season, hinted that the show will start the fifth season.

“I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but I’ve heard they’ll be coming back for a fifth season,” Time Out quoted Georgiou as saying.

It turns out this claim is too good to be true when Mark Gratis confirmed via Twitter that it is not true. The actor said that this news is just “utter nonsense.”
