Shiba Inu-Themed Triangle Pies Return to McDonald’s Japan, Adding Charm to a Budget-Friendly Meal

Its latest release of Sankaku Choco Pies features adorable Shiba Inu dogs on the packaging. Though the triangle pies have appeared on the menu before as limited-time offerings, this is the first time they’ve been presented in such charming boxes, making them even more enticing to customers.

Reporter Haruka Takagi couldn’t resist the allure of these Shiba Inu-themed pies and decided to try them. Interestingly, this was a significant moment for Haruka, as she had never tasted a triangle pie. Determined to make the most of this opportunity, she set out to craft a whole meal experience with 1,000 yen (US$6.63) in hand.

Haruka Crafts a Satisfying 1,000 Yen Meal at McDonald’s, Featuring Savory Snacks and Seasonal Pies

Typically, a fan of McDonald’s burger sets, Haruka ventured beyond her usual order of the 750-yen Big Mac set. With the chocolate pie priced at 160 yen and the sweet potato and caramel pie at 180 yen, she had to get creative to afford both pies while still enjoying a substantial lunch. Fortunately, she indulged in a satisfying meal with advice from friends and a few handy coupons.

Her order included large fries for 280 yen and a five-pack of chicken nuggets for 240 yen, both at coupon prices. She also received a tiny Coke Zero for 120 yen. The BBQ sauce paired well with the nuggets and fries, making for a savory start to her meal.

It was time for the pies once Haruka polished off the savory items. She began with the chocolate pie, priced at 150 yen, with a coupon. The pie was beautifully crisp, and though her first bite didn’t reach the cream center, she immediately noticed the rich cocoa flavor in the dough. With each bite, the combination of smooth, sweet, and slightly bitter cream and a crunch from fine almonds impressed her even more. Haruka was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this pie, noting its richness and balanced flavors.

Next came the sweet potato and caramel pie, purchased for 170 yen with a coupon. The moment she took her first bite, the crispy exterior and the warm, flavorful sweet potato filling delighted her. Enhanced by the addition of chocolate and caramel-flavored corn pieces, the seasonal flavor was a standout, leaving Haruka thoroughly impressed.

Her meal cost 960 yen, leaving her satisfied and with some change to spare. Haruka highly recommends this combination of menu items for a delicious and hearty meal. However, the pies are only available for a limited time—the pink variety is offered until early November, and the black one until late December—so she suggests getting in while you can to try them!
