“Shrek 5” is confirmed and it is in fact already in the works. This reboot has been produced under the new management of Comcast-NBCUniversal, and this is the first animated film that it will be releasing soon.
“Shrek 5” will also have a new writer to inject fresh ideas to the fifth movie sequel. According to Collider, “Austin Powers” writer Michael McCullers has been added to the production team so he will handle the screenplay and story.
Mike Mitchell, one of the directors in “Shrek 2,” said that with McCullers joining the team, he is expecting a very good turnout from the movie. “He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring,” the director shared. “With this detail, the viewers will see a different story that may be filled with twists and other explosive plots.”
For a bit of spoiler, NBC Universal revealed that “Shrek 5” will present a more updated storyline that will go well with the youths of today. They will be able to relate in many instances presented in the movie, so it will be fun to watch. Perhaps, we can expect some characters using some sort of modern technology like the smartphones in the film?
Chris Meledandri, the creator of “Shrek 5” further added (via Variety) with regards to the plot, “When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations.”
Release Date
“Shrek 5” has no official release date yet but it is expected to be announced soon. Although the movie is still in production, there are speculations that it will arrive in cinemas this year, but the exact date is not available. Stay tuned as we will update once the premiere date is confirmed.
