“Shrek” always comes up in the list when it is about the most favorite animation of all-time. This is why fans always want these movies to have sequels since they are always entertaining and wholesome that everyone, regardless of age, can watch.
In the case of this film, fans are waiting for the arrival of “Shrek 5” since the last sequel clearly has a continuation. Dreamworks already produced four parts of this animation, and it is time for the fifth to arrive.
But then, is it really coming? Is the movie still in the cards? The answer is definitely “yes,” so fans have nothing to worry about. Dreamworks Studio and NBCUniversal already gave the “go” signal for the movie to be made, so it is proceeding as planned.
No cancellation plans
Moreover, the studio hired a new writer to give “Shrek 5,” a new concept. The bosses expressed their wish for the movie to be reinvented, so Michael McCullers, who is also known for his works in “Austin Powers” and “The Baby Boss,” was hired.
With him in the main production staff, they are expecting a more vibrant and modernized “Shrek 5.” The makeover will surely give it a fresh look that people of today can relate to. This development shows that the movie is still in the works despite the long wait.
Moreover, McCullers previously revealed that he is done with the script, as well. It is ready since 2017, and they could just be waiting for filming to begin.
“I finished that script which I really, really love and it’s really personal to me,” McCullers told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal, but since DreamWorks was sold to Universal in that time for over $3 billion, I imagine they’re particularly interested in it stepping up and actually figuring out the future of the franchise in that way on the corporate level.”
Release date
“Shrek 5” is not yet being filmed at the moment; thus, it is hard to predict when it will be out in theaters. There is no announcement from Dreamworks, too, but based on the leaked report, it may be released on Sept. 23, 2022.
