HBO's startup comedy series have fans worried that “Silicon Valley” season 6 may be the show's last installment. The season 5 exit of one of the show's breakout characters, Erlich Bachman (TJ Miller), may seem like an ominous sign that the series may be losing steam.
TJ Miller has already confirmed that he will not be returning for “Silicon Valley” season 6. Fans may remember that Bachman exit was sealed when he was left behind by Gavin Belson (Matt Ross) in a Tibetan opium den.
While Bachman didn't necessarily die and the show has historically had certain recurring characters return with no logical explanation, Miller mentions that he has already declined offers to return with a recurring role for “Silicon Valley” season 6. But TJ Miller's exit may actually be a good thing for the show.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show's creator, Mike Judge, mentioned that “Silicon Valley” season 6 was always meant to be the show's last installment. But TJ Miller's exit actually provided Mike Judge and the creative team with a fresh perspective on “Silicon Valley” by no longer being forced to find ways to fit Erlich Bachman into storylines. This new perspective has Judge thinking about show material beyond “Silicon Valley” season 6.
In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show's co-showrunner Alec Berg confirms that the show's cast and crew are now looking towards going past “Silicon Valley” season 6. Berg also mentions that while there is a new endgame in mind for the show, fans can expect those goal posts to potentially be moved too as the writers' material continues to evolve as they work on “Silicon Valley's” future installments.
While HBO has yet to announce an official season premiere date for “Silicon Valley” season 6, fans of the show can hopefully look forward to March or April for the show's broadcast return as it has done consistently with the show's past five seasons.
