The video game industry can be really crazy at times, with so many types of genres and titles that even avid gamers become confused. However, even compared to some of the most bizarre games on the market, the title Super Seducer stands out as a particularly distasteful example. This is why it’s now barred by Sony on the PlayStation 4.
Confirmed by the BBC, the Japanese video game company has decided to ban Super Seducer from its console’s marketplace. Much of the reason for doing so had to do with the game’s theme that has been criticized for encouraging sleaziness, toxic behavior towards women, and a nonchalant attitude with regards to treating the female population as mere objects for collection.
Of course, interpersonal relationships are never easy to define, with so many unspoken rules that need to be navigated. What doesn’t help is a video game that takes this complexity and boils it all down to basically the player displaying a total disregard for the women’s points of view.
Reaction to the game from the community has been mixed, to say the least, with many gamers taking issue with the threat of censorship and others praising any move to ban the game. The creator, Richard La Ruina told the British publication that he was shocked at the level of backlash his game received.
The game is still available on Steam, which means that PC and Mac users can still play it, Ars Technica reports. This isn’t surprising since the digital distribution platform owned by Valve had attempted to intervene in matters that involved a certain level of sexual deviance in the past but was met with backlash from the community.
While PS4 owners aren’t exactly known for being irascible customers that overreact at every single thing, it’s unknown how they will respond to censorship of this kind at this point. Considering how little exposure the ecosystem has had to lewd contents, perhaps it won’t amount to much.
