SpaceX will develop the U.S. Deorbit Vehicle so that NASA can safely deorbit the ISS by 2030. Meanwhile, SpaceX Starlink secures a significant partnership with Comcast Business to enhance rural connectivity.
NASA Taps SpaceX to Develop Deorbit Vehicle for ISS Conclusion by 2030, Ensuring Safe Transition
As Teslarati reported, the operational lifespan of the International Space Station is anticipated to conclude in 2030. NASA intends to deorbit the space station in a controlled manner using the U.S. Deorbit Vehicle that SpaceX will construct.
By selecting a U.S. Deorbit vehicle for the International Space Station, NASA, and its international partners will guarantee a safe and responsible transition into low Earth orbit after station operations.
“This decision also supports NASA’s plans for future commercial destinations and allows for the continued use of space near Earth. The orbital laboratory remains a blueprint for science, exploration, and partnership in space for the benefit of all,” said Ken Bowersox, an associate administrator for the Space Operations Mission Directorate at NASA.
Since 1998, the International Space Station has been managed by five space agencies: NASA, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the European Space Agency (ESA), JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), and the State Space Corporation Roscosmos.
SpaceX Starlink Partners with Comcast Business to Enhance Rural Connectivity with Advanced Satellite Technology
SpaceX Starlink, the satellite internet service, has partnered with Comcast Business, a communications company division, to offer customers connectivity solutions.
Comcast Business will leverage Starlink's low Earth orbit satellite technology to guarantee consistent service in rural areas by offering its customers rapid and dependable internet connectivity.
It is arguably SpaceX's most significant partnership in terms of Starlink, even though it has signed numerous other large-scale collaboration endeavors in various sectors.
For instance, during their oceanic voyages, Maersk's crew members are equipped with internet connectivity through Starlink.
In a business context, SpaceX offers a distinctive opportunity to Starlink clients. People can travel to all corners of the globe by making deals and establishing connections, even in regions with intermittent or unreliable internet access.
Starlink's objective is to enhance the reliability of the internet for enterprises that require it in these regions. It aims to establish connectivity in even the most isolated areas and is committed to expanding its reach to ensure that the Internet is accessible in additional regions worldwide.
Jon Friedman, the SVP of Product Strategy and Operations at Comcast Business, provided an assessment of the organization's collaboration with Starlink:
“As the first major network provider to collaborate with Starlink, we’re excited to uniquely enhance our extensive managed connectivity portfolio with advanced satellite capabilities to better serve our enterprise customers. Starlink’s LEO satellite technology complements our existing network infrastructure, extends our reach and further enhances Comcast Business’ ability to deliver reliable connectivity solutions to enterprises with a human touch.”
The partnership is anticipated to increase reliability for Comcast's Business customers and may incentivize additional ISPs to collaborate with Starlink.
Jason Fritch, the Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, stated that the opportunity is evidence of the service's "increasing role":
“Starlink is excited to work with Comcast Business to deliver reliable connectivity to customers. This agreement with a leading service provider is an acknowledgement of Starlink’s growing role as a critical element in modern enterprise networks.”
