‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ reportedly has the best script in the entire franchise. Alden Ehrenreich is set to play a young Han Solo, following in the footsteps of original actor Harrison Ford. Josh Brolin, Ehrenreich’s co-star in the Coen Brothers film ‘Hail, Caesar!’ expressed his support for the casting choice.
According to i09.com, the new film’s script is reportedly hailed as one of the best scripts ever written in the entire ‘Star Wars’ franchise. Iain McCaig, a concept artist who worked on several feature films in the Lucasfilm series, praised writer Lawrence Kasdan’s early draft of the script after getting the chance to read it before the release of J. J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens’ in 2015.
McCaig reportedly said during a conference in New Zealand that the ‘Han Solo’ script was the best he ever got to read. He admitted to laughing and crying over it. He promised that fans of the franchise will be “in for a treat”.
According to the Independent, Kasdan will be penning the new film’s script together with his on Jon. The American screenwriter, director and producer is best known for co-penning the 1980 film ‘Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back’ as well as 1983’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi’. He recently worked with Abrams for the screenplay of ‘The Force Awakens’.
Kasdan also wrote for another one of George Lucas’ properties namely the 1981 film ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ starring Harrison Ford as the iconic archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones.
Filming for the yet untitled ‘Han Solo’ standalone film is expected to begin in January 2017. This leaves Kasdan and his son enough time to polish up the script.
Alden Ehrenreich is set to play the young Han Solo in directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s upcoming film. He will follow the footsteps of Ford who immortalized the character in cinema’s history. ‘Hail, Caesar!’ co-star Josh Brolin commended Ehrenreich’s casting, according to Digital Spy.
Brolin said, "You know what – you never have any idea… But do I love him? I absolutely adore that guy I thought he was the best thing in Hail, Caesar! by far and I'm really really curious to see how he does. What a great guy. Very creatively alive, young, a little weird, like I like, and a great choice. JJ Abrams really understands what he's doing. I think he's creating something really fun. So I wish him the best."
He added, "How do I think it's going to be? I have no idea. I never know how anything's going to be! I've seen the worst casting choices ever in certain movies that turned out to be phenomenal performances and I've seen casting where you go "god that's perfect!" and then you see the movie and you go "eeeeww! what happened?!"
‘Star Wars: Han Solo’ is a yet untitled installment in the ‘Star Wars’ anthology of films. It is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018 in the United States and is currently in pre-production. It is produced under Lucasfilms and Walt Disney Pictures.
