The time has come when PC gamers lose all sanity and give in to their basest desires; “Steam Summer Sale” has officially started. Players are expected to purchase hundreds, if not thousands of dollars’ worth of games until the event ends on July 4, burning through their savings faster than turning zombies to dust with flame throwers. Amid the probable chaos that the summer sale is expected to cause, some surprising twists occurred involving “Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO)” where customers are not allowed to buy the game as a gift, and the setup of discounted prices.
During previous summer sales, one of the more hilarious aspects of the event involved the two levels of discounted prices that depended on whether or not the product is on the front page. Games that are listed elsewhere will be discounted, but titles that are on the front page of “Steam” will have even bigger discounts. As PC Mag pointed out, this meant that gamers who truly wanted to buy titles at the best deals needed to be glued to their screens all the time.
This time is different. Now, all the discounts that players see on “Steam” are the discounted prices that those games will have until the sale ends. So customers have no choice but to buy those titles at the prices already set, which removes the pressure.
In related news, it seems that players have been complaining that they can’t buy “CSGO” for their friends, as they would usually be able to during normal transactions. “Valve” replied, saying that the most likely players to stick with the online multiplayer FPS are those that bought the game for themselves.
Kotaku reported that there might be other reasons for preventing customers from buying the game at a discounted price for their friends such as preventing resellers from making huge gains when they sell the game at a higher price later on.
