A new trailer for Netflix’s highly-successful made-for-TV series “Stranger Things” Season 2 debuted at this Sunday’s Super Bowl. The trailer teased a lot of things that would possibly happen, and miss in Season 2.
The Guardian said that in true 80’s fashion, fans will probably expect a lot more nostalgia in the second season. The trailer started with a part of what seems to be a commercial for Eggos, Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) favorite food. The people in the trailer are dressed in 80s clothing, and there was a homage to the original Ghostbusters, thanks to the costumes Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) wore in school apparently. Also, the news site notes that series creator and directors the Duffer Brothers also introduced a lot of cinematic references, most notably “Super 8” and “E.T.”. A new monster appears to be the gang’s protagonist, and he’s bigger than the last one based in the trailer.
As for Eleven, she is shown upside down, to the relief of fans following her purported demise after rescuing the boys from the Demigorgon in the first season. However, it could be noted that Eleven might not be in a good place, after all. USA Today notes that Eleven appears to have fresh blood running down her nose, which could mean that she’s in very big trouble in the Upside Down, and is using her powers anyway to get away from it.
But the biggest shocker was, where is Winona Ryder? Ryder, who is a grieving mother named Joyce to her missing (but found) son Will (Noah Schnapp), is particularly absent in the trailer. Ryder was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the first season, FOX News said. But reports of a couple new members joining the original cast is proof that Ryder will definitely be in Season 2, with a new love interest.
"He’s Winona’s new boyfriend – much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police," said actor David Harbour, who plays Chief Hopper in the series.
“Stranger Things” Season 2 will debut on Netflix on Halloween this year.
