The coronavirus is the main problem in the world right now. Countries are struggling to contain the virus as it spreads quickly and easily. To date, in Hollywood, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were the first celebrities to be infected by the dreaded COVID-19 but luckily, they have recovered.
CNBC News reported that the husband and wife have been released from an Australian hospital after being treated for coronavirus. However, they still decided to go on self-quarantine not just for themselves to be safe but for people around them as well. Actor Idris Elba also tested positive later and suggested that he could have gotten the virus from Canadian PM's wife Sophie Trudeau who also had the virus on the same day.
Now as it is getting more dangerous for people to gather together, movie and TV productions have been affected since filming is impossible with the threat of coronavirus. As a result, more and more shows and films are announcing the rescheduling of their programs to protect their artists and crew. Below are some series and films that have been delayed.
The Bachelorette
The production of this ABC reality show has been postponed. Entertainment Weekly reported that in a statement issued by Warner Bros’ spokesperson, it was relayed that filming for “The Bachelorette” season 16 will have to be rescheduled at a later time.
"With the rapidly changing events related to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, Warner Bros. Television Group is halting production on some of our 70+ series and pilots currently filming or about to begin,” part of the statement reads. “There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on any of our productions, but the health and safety of our employees, casts and crews remain our top priority.”
Stranger Things, Lucifer and The Witcher
Production of all Netflix shows has been suspended and it includes the many popular series. In a measure of how fast COVID-19 spreads, the streaming giant temporarily canceled all filming schedules in accordance with the government’s restrictions and health and safety precautions.
Riverdale
“Riverdale” is currently filming for its fourth season but the production shut down after a staff member comes in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient. TV Line reported that the staff is currently receiving medical evaluation in Vancouver where filming is taking place.
The Little Mermaid
Disney also canceled the production of its live-action movies including “The Little Mermaid.” Other shows affected by the coronavirus pandemic are the “Falcon And The Winter Soldier” and the release of “Mulan.”
