The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) says neither the woman receiving Ebola care in Nigeria nor her husband went to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), challenging Uganda’s account of her route.

The FDFA said it considers the couple’s time in Uganda the suspected source of infection. Uganda’s Ministry of Health said its earlier account of her reported DRC trip described business travel in eastern DRC, followed by symptom-free transit through Uganda and illness in Nigeria. The ministry said the woman’s exposure location remained under investigation.

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare confirmed one case of Bundibugyo virus disease in Abuja on Oct. 20 and said 44 contacts were being monitored. The count refers to people being followed up, not additional confirmed cases; EconoTimes previously covered Nigeria’s monitoring of the 44 contacts. The World Health Organization says the DRC outbreak is the country’s 17th Ebola outbreak since 1976 and the largest recorded there. Uganda’s ministry said it was continuing to investigate where the woman was exposed.
