In a surprise twist that very few people saw coming, Hideo Kojima made an appearance during “Sony’s” presentation at “E3” where the video game’s eccentric genius revealed a trailer for his new game. The new title is called “Death Stranding,” and that’s about all anyone really knows. From what The Verge wrote about the reveal, though, it seems that the new title will feature salvaged concepts from the canceled “Silent Hills” game.

Kojima and Reedus, along with acclaimed horror movie director Guillermo del Toro were working in a new installment of the ‘Silent Hill” franchise. Unfortunately, the game got canned, but it seems the new game by the man behind the “Metal Gear’ series is applying what he envisioned the horror game would be to “Death Stranding.”

The trailer opened with a scene showing a naked man holding a baby while standing on a deserted beach. The man is presumably the main character played by Reedus, and as the camera moved to face him, the baby dissolved into what appears to be an oily substance. With a haunted look on his face, the man then look up to the sky to see several figures before the trailer ended.

The demo bore clear signs of the psychological and emotional elements that made the “Silent Hill” games so remarkable, particularly with what seems to be a play on the trend of tragic protagonists. Is this the fresh face of the horror video game genre that fans are looking for?

Venture Beat reports that other people who are working on the game include Mark Cerny and Yoji Shinkawa. Cerny, who worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as well as Ratchet & Clank, is the game’s technical director. Meanwhile, Shinkawa who worked alongside Kojima with the Metal Gear series has been tapped to be the art director.
