A Missouri contractor has shared how he saves nearly $65 daily in fuel costs by using his Tesla Cybertruck to tow his construction trailer. The savings come from the Cybertruck’s efficiency, compared to his previous vehicle, a Dodge Ram, which consumed premium gasoline at just 9 mpg.
Missouri Contractor Saves $65 Daily by Towing Construction Trailer with Tesla Cybertruck, Cutting Fuel Costs
A Tesla owner and contractor in Missouri recently shared an observation on social media that surprised several members of the electric vehicle community. Tesla's owner saves nearly $65 daily on gasoline costs using his Cybertruck to tow his construction trailer.
Dan Burke, the proprietor of White Wolf Construction & Home Inspection, disclosed his encounter in a post on the social media platform X. The Tesla proprietor has repurposed the Cybertruck as his around-town tow vehicle for his construction trailer. Despite the trailer's reduction in the Cybertruck's range, the vehicle's capacity to cover his daily requirements remains sufficient. Tesla's owner generally observed that the Cybertruck saves him nearly $65 daily in gasoline savings alone.
Unsurprisingly, Tesla's owner's post garnered significant attention on social media even though skeptics questioned the Cybertruck owner's assertions. On the other hand, Burke attributes his substantial daily fuel savings to the fact that his previous around-town tow vehicle, a Dodge Ram, was equipped with several performance mods and a dedicated towing tune. Consequently, the pickup truck necessitated premium gasoline and achieved only 9 mpg. Consequently, Burke observed that he would allocate approximately $70 for gasoline for his Dodge Ram on an average day.
Contractor Saves $16,900 Annually by Charging Tesla Cybertruck at Home, Highlighting Massive Fuel Savings
The Tesla owner observed that his fueling expenses had decreased substantially due to the Cybertruck. Burke observed that he charges his Cybertruck at home, where off-peak electricity rates are 4.5 cents per kWh. According to Teslarati, this leads to a daily petroleum savings of approximately $65, or roughly $325 per week, throughout a five-week workday. The estimated savings for a typical 20-day month are approximately $1,300. Given that a typical year comprises 260 work days, the annual fuel savings for a Tesla proprietor could amount to $16,900.
“That’s how much gas I put in my Ram almost every day when I pull this trailer. It weighs 6300-ish pounds on a normal day, and the Ram gets right at 9 mpg pulling it. The Ram has a bunch of performance mods, which is great for power but sucks down fuel. Premium fuel no less because of the towing tune I run on it. The Cybertruck is averaging 675 wh/mi on the same drive if I stay off the highway. On the highway, it’s around 824-875 depending on wind. So on a typical day, 160 miles /9mpg x 3.95 = $70. If I charge at my house, off-peak it’s 4.5 cents a kWh. 100 kWh back to the battery at 4.5 cents and that’s about $65 a day in savings,” Burke explained in a post on X.
Granted, Burke is a unique case, as his business requirements perfectly align with Cybertruck's current capabilities. However, many business owners could experience comparable advantages by utilizing Tesla's all-electric pickup truck. After all, numerous enterprises specialize in short—to medium-distance towing. Even though Tesla continues to use Foundation Series variants exclusively for customers, Cybertruck is a highly viable option.
