Tesla Semi Worldwide Rollout Confirmed by Musk as Global Demand Surges

Tesla Semi’s global release has been confirmed by Elon Musk, marking a pivotal moment for the electric vehicle giant. Despite skepticism surrounding its autonomous capabilities, recent tests prove the truck’s impressive 500-mile range, setting the stage for a worldwide expansion.

Tesla Semi Faces Skepticism Over Autonomy and Range

As Tesla continues to battle with trust concerns related to autonomy, many still do not believe that a class 8 truck with a 500-mile range is viable.

However, as Electrek mentioned yesterday, third-party testing is beginning to validate Tesla's boasts about its semi-trucks, as seen in a recent trial with DHL.

Delayed Production Timeline Finally Moving Forward

The vehicle program, which has been considerably delayed and was originally scheduled to go into production in 2019, is finally going to start volume production, and these trials are happening at the same time.

Although Tesla currently operates a small assembly line in a facility close to its Gigafactory in Nevada, just outside of Reno, the company is currently constructing a second plant adjacent to the first facility in order to begin mass-producing the Tesla Semi in the coming year. In 2025, production will begin to scale up with the final aim of producing up to 50,000 trucks annually.

Musk’s Focus Remains on North American Market

Despite Elon Musk's earlier statements this year suggesting production of the Tesla Semi in Europe at the Gigafactory Berlin, the program's primary focus has always been on the North American market.

Presenting a slightly altered version to conform to EU laws, Tesla took the vehicle to Europe last month for an IAA display.

Tesla Semi to Be Available Worldwide, Musk Confirms

Gigafactory Berlin is rumored to be the future home of the Tesla Semi, and Musk has now announced that the vehicle will be made available worldwide.

Electrek reports that he may have meant the countries where Tesla is presently active, but it is unclear what he means because the company's current portfolio of vehicles is not really available worldwide.
