Tesla’s Cybertruck reservation list for U.S. buyers ran out in just nine days after delivery invites began, yet demand for the $79,990 non-Foundation Series appears weaker than expected, sparking questions about the electric truck's market potential.
Tesla Struggles to Move Affordable Cybertruck Models
Tesla began asking the remaining one million Cybertruck reservation holders to take delivery of their non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks on October 4th, after ten months and more than 20,000 Cybertrucks sold.
It seems like not even the most affordable Cybertruck model is selling well for Tesla.
A member of the Cybertruck Owners Club from Texas named BayouCityBob states, "The original US Cybertruck reservation list is exhausted."
Owners Share Frustration Over Cybertruck Deliveries
The fact that BayouCityBob describes his personal struggle to purchase a Cybertruck lends credence to his assertion.
It is as follows:
“I created a Cybertruck reservation in mid-July of this year (RN 12222XXXX). Just two weeks later (August 2nd), we were invited to configure a Foundation Series Cybertruck. Today, we received an invitation to configure a non-foundation series. I went to the configurator and built a dual-motor Cybertruck, which showed October-November delivery (presumably out of inventory). Same for CyberBeast. So I am calling it: original (US) reservation list is basically finished.”
Three screenshots of Tesla correspondence that BayouCityBob got are attached to his post. In the first picture, taken on July 17, 2024, you can see his initial Cybertruck reservation.
Tesla Faces Delays Amid Rapid Reservation List Exhaustion
In the second picture, you can see an email he got from Tesla, inviting him to pick up his Cybertruck, which cost $79,990.
Lastly, the final picture showcases his Cybertruck configuration with two motors, which is scheduled to be delivered somewhere between October and November.
It wasn't until October 4 that Tesla started selling the $79,990 Cybertruck. Initially, the electric vehicle manufacturer allowed reservation holders to take delivery of their non-Foundation Series Cybertruck on the first day of November 2019.
Future Demand for Cybertruck Remains Uncertain
But now we're nine days later, and Tesla has already used up all of the 2019–2024 reservation slots.
The stated delivery dates of October to November are even more astonishing. So, even though most consumers had the option to turn their Cybertruck reservation into a binding order, the vast majority of them choose not to.
The future demand for the Cybertruck is reportedly affected by this, as noted by TorqueNews.
Tesla Buyers Share Confusion Over Delivery Invitations
Another witness to the Cybertruck reservation list vanishing in a matter of days is Nathan James, who is a part of the Tesla Cybertruck Facebook group.
Tesla Buyers Voice Concerns Over Build Quality Issues
According to MC1987, another person who has reserved a Cybertruck, he did so in June 2024 and claims that Tesla has already invited him to take delivery of the $79,990 vehicle.
This is what MC1987 had to say after his account was shared on Reddit:
